This episode discusses why Dr. Suzuki thought it was important to develop the talent of doing things for others.

I Finished the 2016 National Novel Writing Month!

Yup, I finished it! I wrote 50,000 words this past November. I learned a lot of lessons while doing it, like discipline, perseverance, endurance, and lots of other fun psychological issues. What I learn most of all is that by showing up each day to the page, no matter what, no matter how little time I might have to spare, I will eventually reach the end of the word count successfully. And this bit of information translates to successfully achieving many other things in my life. And that’s the best lesson of all!

034 TSP The Crazy Driver (ISTEX Conference)

This episode of the Teach Suzuki podcast recounts my experiences at the 8th annual conference of the International Suzuki Teachers Exchange in Remscheid, Germany at the end of October 2016. I relate details of the events that I attended and the people that I met and learned from, and I offer a suggestion about why attending such an important conference is important for Suzuki teachers.

Reflections – Express Your Love

This episode is part of the “Reflections” series of podcast episodes, which are short, minutes long reflections about a quote or other thought from Dr. Shinichi Suzuki’s philosophy or writing. The purpose of these reflections is to give parents and teachers a chance to spend a few minutes thinking about how great the impact might be on the world and our children with merely a slight moment of reflection about a behavior, thought, or attitude.

This episode reminds us of the importance of expressing our love to our children physically. The medical condition of “failure to thrive” and the unfortunate deprivation of language experiments from the 1200s lend support. Have a listen and see if you agree that physical expression of a parent’s love is one of the most important gifts a parent can give to a child.

Reflections — Build the Right Environment

This episode is part of the “Reflections” series of podcast episodes, which are short, minutes long reflections about a quote or other thought from Dr. Shinichi Suzuki’s philosophy or writing. The purpose of these reflections is to give parents and teachers a chance to spend a few minutes thinking about how great the impact might be on the world and our children with merely a slight moment of reflection about a behavior, thought, or attitude.

This episode asks the question of what the parents have placed in the child’s environment to learn. Children learn things quickly, so it is important to consider what things parents include in the child’s life for the child to learn.
