107 TSP Give It Back! Watch Your Assumptions

Today’s episode discusses two important ideas: giving back to the larger community in order to become larger than ourselves, and watching the assumptions that we bring to the teaching or parenting relationship.

I mentioned a video link to part of the presentation that Elise Winters gave at the 2018 ASTA conference. Here is a link to Elise’s video: Dancing With Words: Purposeful Communication in the Private Lesson to Connect, Transform and Inspire.

Here are other podcast episodes about similar topics discussed in this episode:

Personality Styles (episode 13)

Sere, Hear, Feel (Learning Styles) (episode 14)

Reflections — Life is Short

Life is short, but our actions as parents and teachers can have a lasting influence and impact. Are you developing the fruit of good character? Do you perform acts for the common good?

106 TSP Reading the Parent’s Mind | Building Trust in the Suzuki Triangle

We need to believe in order to commit to the work we will be expected to do. We do the work because we believe in the value of the work. And the value is our children and the development of their ability.

What do parents believe about the Suzuki relationship or the teacher’s information given during music lesson? Do parents trust the teacher? How can the two adults in the Suzuki Triangle relationship — the parent and the teacher — work together?

Here is a link to the book that the listener referred to about “overparenting”:

If you use this associate link, you will provide a slight benefit to the podcast and blog at no additional cost to you.

The listener also referred to the previous episode episode 105 about reading the signs between the parent and child.

Reflections — Keep Ever Aware

Today’s reflection comes from Opening Doors Within by Eileen Caddy, from her March 29 meditation. Dr. Suzuki encouraged all of us to self-reflect regularly, and this meditation offers ideas that will deepen our reflection experience.

105 TSP Horse Manure | Reading the Signs (Parent-Child Relationship)

It is important for the parent-child relationship to be strong and happy. Metaphors, signs, and symbols are useful communication tools. This podcast episode explores the bigger story in the parent and child relationship — the story that lies hidden in the parent’s and child’s behaviors and that is often revealed as metaphor, sign, or symbol. Teachers often observe signs or symbols of troubled relationships in the home. Today’s episode explores these signs and their potential meaning.
