How do we prepare a relaxed and poised recital performance to demonstrate our work and skill development to our best abilities? This episode discusses building a recital preparation checklist, choosing recital selections, setting memorization deadlines, and showing students how to build performance confidence.

This month’s focus or theme is to build an “ideas compendium.” I have identified four crucial areas that often provide stumbling blocks or frustration points for teachers, parents, and students. I discuss how to set up a gathering place for capturing ideas in each of the four areas, and I discuss some possible examples of items to put on the compendium list. The four areas of the ideas compendium are parent woes, student problems/issues, practice woes, and scheduling woes.

Sibling rivalry is familiar to all parents and teachers.

“It’s my turn!”

“I don’t want to go first! It’s your turn to go first!”

“I get the front seat!”

“I had the toy first!”

Sound familiar in your home or teaching studio? Maybe you have even heard these sorts of complaints in the workplace. Most of us are familiar with sibling rivalry and wish we did not have to experience it.
